Dr. Warren Johnson, Jr. to receive the 2009 Society Citation Award from the Infectious Diseases Society of America
Dr. Warren Johnson, of the Division of Infectious Diseases, was selected by the Infectious Diseases Society of America (ISDA) to receive the 2009 Society Citation Award in recognition of his outstanding contributions in infectious diseases and his commitment to the field. The award will be presented during the upcoming IDSA meeting in Philadelphia.
The Infectious Diseases Society of America represents physicians, scientists and other health care professionals who specialize in infectious diseases. IDSA's purpose is to improve the health of individuals, communities, and society by promoting excellence in patient care, education, research, public health, and prevention relating to infectious diseases. Its national meeting last year was attended by over 15,000 people.
The Society Citation is a discretionary award given in recognition of exemplary contribution to the IDSA, an outstanding discovery in the field of infectious diseases, or a lifetime of outstanding achievement in a given area-either in research, clinical investigation, or clinical practice.

Dr. Johnson is the B.H. Kean Professor of Tropical Medicine, Professor of Medicine, Professor of Clinical Public Health and the Director of the Center for Global Health in the Division of Infectious Diseases. He has directed Cornell research and training programs in Brazil since 1969 and in Haiti since 1980. He is also the former Chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases in the Department of Medicine. Last year, Dr. Johnson was honored during an inauguration ceremony in which a new clinical facility was named after him in Port-au-Prince, Haiti - the Warren D. Johnson, Jr. Medical Center.
