Department of Medicine Research Partnership with Soochow University

On October 12, 2009, the Department of Medicine signed a Letter of Intent to establish a research collaboration with the First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University in Suzhou, China. Our institutions agreed to continue to explore research collaborations of mutual interest, initially focusing on basic, translational and clinical cancer and blood diseases research. These may include the development of clinical databases, registries and biobanks, as well as multi-center global clinical trials and basic research programs of global impact. The agreement also outlined the goal of establishing education and training programs through the exchange of students and physicians.

Leading the agreement was Dr. Andrew Schafer, Chair of the Department of Medicine, and (in the picture to his right) Dr. Chang-Geng Ruan, President of the Chinese Society of Hematology and Director of the Jiangsu Institute of Soochow University Medical College, and (to his left) Dr. Jiangyi Ge, Chief Executive Officer of the First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University, China.
