Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism Information for Fellowship Applicants

Dear Fellowship Applicant,

Thank you for your interest in the Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism Fellowship at Weill Cornell Medical College. The fellowship is a two-year training program accredited by the Residency Review Committee of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). The program employs the academic and clinical resources of three institutions: NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical College, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and the Hospital for Special Surgery. The first year of the fellowship is primarily clinical, while the second year emphasizes clinical investigation or basic research. By the completion of the second year, fellows should have at least one paper prepared for publication in a peer-reviewed journal and will be eligible for recommendation to the Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism Subspecialty Boards. An additional year of fellowship research training (non-ACGME) may be arranged on an individual basis.

Our program is currently accepting applications for two fellowship positions starting July 1, 2012.  Fellowship applications must be completed electronically through the American Association of Medical Colleges’ Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). After the applicant interviews have concluded, fellowship candidates must register with the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP) to match to the program. Our program follows a December ERAS application cycle with a June NRMP Match date.

Please note that applicants should apply for fellowship during their second year of residency. Fellowship training will begin approximately one year after the NRMP Match. Residents applying in December 2010 will begin fellowship training in July 2012.

Additionally, all applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents at the time of application (on or before 12/20/2010.) The fellowship program does not sponsor any VISAs at this time. (If you hold an EAD in anticipation of a Green Card, please contact the program coordinator.) Additionally, fellowship candidates must be able to meet the appointment requirements of all three institutions, including the procurement of a New York State Medical License and DEA certification, by July 1, 2012.

For your application to be considered complete, the program requires the following ERAS documents:

  • ERAS Common Application Form (CAF) with CV
  • 3 Letters of Recommendation — including one letter from the program director of your residency program
  • Personal Statement
  • ECFMG Status Report (international medical graduates only)
  • USMLE Transcript
  • Wallet-sized Color Photograph
  • Optional — Medical Student Performance Evaluation and Medical School Transcript

Applicant interviews are by invitation only. Candidates selected to interview will be contacted by program staff by the end of January 2011. At that time, applicants selected to interview may email any relevant published research to the program coordinator. Published research will be added to the applicant’s file and made available to interviewers and fellowship selection committee members.
All fellowship interviews will be scheduled on Wednesdays in February and March of 2011.

We look forward to receiving your application!

Sincerely,
David Brillon, MD
Fellowship Program Director
