John Leonard, M.D., Associate Director of Clinical Research for the Weill Cornell Cancer Center, was awarded a one-year grant from Genentech to support the development of a Tissue Procurement Core, as part of the newly established Cancer Center at Weill Cornell Medical College. The grant funding will initiate the development of this core resource, which is a critical aspect of high-quality translational cancer studies. In addition, Genentech funding may provide some support for pilot research studies, such as those intended to understand patient participation in biopsy studies and aspects of investigator-initiated pilot cancer tissue - procurement projects. Dr. Leonard is the Richard T. Silver Distinguished Professor of Hematology and Medical Oncology and Professor of Medicine in the Department of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College.
