Dr. Benjamin Levy named Recipient of a 2009 ASCO Young Investigator Award

Benjamin Levy, MD, of the Division of Hematology/Oncology, was selected as one of the 2009 recipients of the Young Investigators Award from the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) for his study, "Biomarker Analysis of Circulating Tumor Cells in Prostate Cancer: Predicting Response to Taxanes: A Pilot Study".

The Young Investigator Award provides funding to promising investigators to encourage and promote quality research in clinical oncology. The purpose of this award is to fund physicians during the transition from a fellowship program to a faculty appointment. Priority consideration is given to proposals that include patient-oriented and, ultimately, clinical research.

The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) is a non-profit organization, founded in 1964, with overarching goals of improving cancer care and prevention and ensuring that all patients with cancer receive care of the highest quality. More than 25,000 oncology practitioners belong to ASCO, representing all oncology disciplines (medical, radiation, and surgical oncology) and subspecialties. Members include physicians and health-care professionals participating in approved oncology training programs, oncology nurses, and other practitioners with a predominant interest in oncology.

As the world's leading professional organization representing physicians who treat people with cancer, ASCO is committed to advancing the education of oncologists and other oncology professionals, to advocating for policies that provide access to high-quality cancer care, and to supporting the clinical trials system and the need for increased clinical and translational research.
