Weill Cornell Internal Medicine Associates Education
Weill Cornell Internal Medicine Associates (WCIMA) is the primary site for ambulatory education in General Internal Medicine for the Internal Medicine Residency Training Program. We strive to deliver superior medical training to the internists of tomorrow. Educational programs are integrated into every aspect of the division, providing students and residents the benefit of the mentorship and supervision of our distinguished faculty physicians.
Out-Patient Medicine: Through an integrated system of supervised primary care experience at WCIMA, residents are exposed to the primary problems in ambulatory care Internal Medicine. WCIMA provides a formal didactic curriculum to complement the direct patient experience at our different practice sites. There are 3 conferences weekly for residents in the PGY-1 year and 2 formal morning conferences per week for residents in the PGY-2 and PGY-3 years. In addition, there are supplementary sessions on psycho-social issues in medical care, quality improvement, issues in addiction and in medical Spanish. WCIMA also organizes an Ambulatory Care Morning Report 3 times per week, in which cases from the resident and attending practices are discussed in a formal case conference.
Inpatient Medicine: WCIMA provides ward attending coverage for the General Medicine 3 inpatient unit. GenMed 3 is staffed by a WCIMA attending, 2 residents and 2 interns.
Resident Journal Club: Dr. Fred Pelzman co-runs the weekly Resident Journal Club for the PGY-2 and PGY-3 years.
