Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism Fellowship

The Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism Fellowship is a two-year training program accredited by the Residency Review Committee of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). This is a tri-institutional program with NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical College, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and the Hospital for Special Surgery. Fellows receive didactic and clinical instruction from faculty using the inpatient and ambulatory facilities of all three hospitals, a combined 1,500-bed medical complex. The first year of the fellowship is primarily clinical, while the second year emphasizes clinical investigation or basic research.

Rotations: : Fellows split their time equally between NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical College and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and participate in regular metabolic bone disease conferences and clinics at the Hospital for Special Surgery. Throughout their tenure, fellows see inpatient consults at both NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical College and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and participate in outpatient clinics at all institutions. During the second year, fellows rotate-out to the specialty clinics listed below. Each of these rotations requires fellows to be actively involved in the evaluation of cases, and fellows often follow patients on subsequent visits. Furthermore, these rotations provide the opportunity for fellows to gain teaching skills with residents and medical students on elective.

Research: During the second year of the program, fellows have the opportunity to conduct research at any of the three sponsoring institutions, as well as The Rockefeller University. Based on individual interest and past research experience, fellows may select mentors from a range of disciplines in both basic and clinical research. Our faculty’s research interests include thyroid cancer, diabetes mellitus, obesity, and calcium and bone metabolism. Division Chief, Dr. Imperato-McGinley, is the Principal Investigator of Weill Cornell's NIH-funded Clinical and Translational Science Center (CTSC). By the completion of their second year, fellows will have at least one paper prepared for publication in a peer-reviewed journal. An optional third year is devoted to further research training
